The Nutcracker Story

Usher in the holiday season at MDA's delightful production of The Nutcracker, performed by students in Pre-Ballet 3 and our upper level ballet students. This beloved fairy tale ballet is centered on the Stahlbaum family's Christmas Eve celebration. Family and friends have gathered in the parlor to decorate the beautiful Christmas tree in preparation for the party. Drosselmeyer, a local toymaker and magician who is also the Godfather to the Stahlbaum children, delights all of the children with gifts, magic, and a story. Clara receives a special Nutcracker, which is broken by her jelous brother, Fritz. After the guests have all left, Clara falls asleep by the Christmas tree with her beloved Nutcracker. Magically, The Nutcracker comes to life in her dreams. Clara watches The Nutcracker, along with his soldiers, battle the Mouse King and mice. Nearly defeated, Clara saves The Nutcracker by throwing her slipper at the Mouse King. The Nutcracker is transformed into a prince, then leads Clara through the moonlit night tinto the Land of Snow. They are delighted with performances by dancing snowflakes, winter animals, angels, and villagers. To conclude the night, dancing candies from the Land of Sweets performs for The Nutcracker Prince and Clara.

MOMS -- GRANDMAS -- AUNTS

We can really use MORE helpers backstage. We also need helpers for the upper level ballet classes. You do NOT need to purchase a ticke. If you've already purchased one, we will refund/credit your account. You will be able to watch your child from the wings of the stage.

  • Pre-Ballet 3 (Thursday class)
  • Upper ballet classes
  • Ushers
  • One additional security guard (retired or active police officer)

Ms Asja Stamps

Ms Asja Stamps started her dance training at age three in Chicago's Southside, trained by prestigious dancers of all facets. After high school, she continued her dance education with The American Musical and Dramatic Academy college and conservatory of the performing Arts-LA where she obtained her B.F.A. In dance theatre. Post graduation, Ms Asja returned home to flourish her career. From dancing on FOX hit shows, such as Empire and The Big Leap, to being an NBA dancer for the Chicago Bulls (2019-2020), there is nothing standing in Asja’s way! She has taught dance at various dance studios in Chicago and the Chicago Public Schools. When she is not dancing, she is teaching her precious preschool students and spending time with her family. Asja is so exited to join the MDA team, and to share her passion for dance with our students.

Register today for Asja's energetic hip hop class on Tuesdays from 7:00-8:00 beginning Tuesdays, or tap classes from 6:15-7:00. She is also teaching Pre-Ballet/Tap 2 from 4:30-5:15 and Pre-Ballet/Tap 3 from 6:00-7:00.

We are so excited to be re-starting our Hip Hop and Tap program for upper level students. Ms Asja Stamps, our newest instructor, will be teaching hip hop and tap on Thursday evenings. Students do not want to miss this opportunity to learn the latest moves from this awesome dancer. She's danced professionally, including the Chicago Bulls (see her biography above). She is energetic, always smiling, and will be sure to get yuour kids movin' and tappin'! See our website for the class schedule.

Thank you for telling your friends and family about MDA, and for your great reviews and recommendations. It is helping us rebuild our program as we bounce back from the pandemic. We are adding several classes to the schedule. Students Must Be Enrolled by January 3, 2020
We always hold our year-end recitals the first or second week in June. All classes will be in the recital, including our little students in Pre-Ballet 1. Participation is not mandatory, but this is the highlight of the year for our students! We will be back on stage, under the lights, with an audience seated in a dry, air conditioned auditorium! Because of this industry-wide shortage of fabricas and costume materials, we are already making recital plans so we can order costumes  in January. Therefore, anyone who wants to be in the recital, must be enrolled by January 3, 2022
